The Joys to My Oys

The Joys to My Oys

Funny title, right? Thanks, I thought so too!

Usually I think of what I want to write and somewhere along the line the title happens, this time it was actually the opposite. I thought of this line that is now my title, and it slowly morphed into what is now going to be a post.

I feel as though a lot of the things I’ve had on my mind or written about (while either published publicly or not) have been a bit deeper and focused more on the trials of life than the beauty. I really do try and strike a balance within each piece, but sometimes that doesn’t happen so smoothly.

While trying to fall to sleep the other night, I made a challenge to myself this week to consciously find something good in each day, write it down, and let myself absorb it. At the same time, I challenged myself to make a blog post that oozes happiness. An epic fluff piece if you will. So, here we are.

How did the title “The Joys to My Oys” come to be? I’m so happy you asked. When something isn’t enjoyable or just is just plain old… meh… it can be such an oy. A verbal face palm. Sometimes life is like that, and we just have to deal. But more often than not, there are things that bring you joy, thus becoming the Joys to any Oys that may be. Clever right?

For those who know me, and for those who know me merely through my written word, it’s very easy to find what the joys to my oys are; My friends and my family. Even if they can sometimes be my oys, but that’s love right?

I suppose this is going to be my ode to them then. They’ve been the ones to stand by my side and pick me up when I fall down. I owe them everything.

With that being the longest intro in history, here’s what I had to say about friendship as I was flying back from a weekend escape in paradise…

What is friendship?

Friendship is a million little things that all magically come together to be one beautiful and dysfunctional and large piece of your heart.

Friendship is caring, all the time. It’s knowing what’s needed before it’s even said.

Friendship is hugs, laughs, facetime, phone calls, getting outraged by catan and making enemies bur not being able to stay mad for more than a minute because suddenly you need them again.

Friendship is shared chocolate milkshakes and french fries, and drinks that may quite literally kick your butt.

Friendship is crying in one second and scrolling through social media in the next, because Insta never takes a break.

Friendship is waking up early just to come visit your best friend, and her waking up early and being nice to you before coffee just to send you home safely.

Friendship is being a third wheel (24/7/365, even on anniversaries).

Friendship defies time and distance.

Friendships like these are forever.

Friendship like these are home.

They are ones that turn your oys into joys.

What is family?

Family is unconditional, crazy, and all together the weirdest people you will ever have in your life.

They’re the people who get under your skin like no other, but they know how to make you laugh to the point of not being able to breathe.

Nobody in the world gets you quite like your family. Nobody in the world will love you as much as they do either.

Family is a bond. Sometimes you’re lucky enough to be born into one that does all the perfectly imperfect things, and sometimes family are the people you choose to let be your rock and support. And, if you’re truly blessed in this world, sometimes you wind up getting both. The family you’re born into and the family you create and become a part of.

There’s never a wrong day to be grateful for those you have in your life and the memories you create with them. Go text or call your best friend, sister, brother, mother, father, aunt, cousin, etc. Tell them you love them, tell them why, let them know they’re appreciated and that they’re the ones who are the Joys to your Oys.

Life is too short to wait to express gratitude for those who make our lives worth living.

XOXO
